Over the past few weeks, we have had a mobile headquarters/sleeping quarters.  We have slept at three different friends’ houses, in numerous meeting rooms at the Stanford Union, in the Stanford d.School, in our car (thank god we have an SUV and not a civic)…similarly, our “office” has been every one of those places (and every cafe’ in Palo Alto until closing- then Happy Donuts until we fall asleep.

We have gotten pretty used to sleeping on the floor– people tell us it is good for the back too– and are now experts at finding and stealing (or sometimes just asking nicely) wi-fi from random neighbors.  SIDENOTE: It is really amazing how many people use “password” as their wifi password…but I digress.  The stat that I won’t share at this time is how many days we went without having a shower during our “nomadic phase.”

The good news is that we have now found a new place to serve as our house and worldwide corporate headquarters.  Its location is unbeatable, three blocks from University Avenue/downtown Palo Alto and it is huge for our standards.  We are planning to get a couple of couches from goodwill, a big table to work at/hold dinner parties and a bunch of whiteboards and other brainstorming objects.

We haven’t decided whether we need or want beds yet though- it seems like an unnecessary consumer of space.  In general, none of us really care about where we are working/living as long as we have internet and food available.  However, having our own place is going to give us much more time in general as we wont have to constantly be driving to different places to work, eat etc.

There are HUGE advantages to living with your team in the early stages (why do you think Paul Graham has his Y-combinator companies do it).  Not only do you just have more time with the team, you also learn about your teammates, get on the same schedules and can constantly collaborate.
